What is the Dulux Colour of the Year concept?

Every year Dulux choose a colour that will inspire our interiors for the year to come. The COTY is selected by an expert panel of colour designers, trend forecasters, design specialists, architects and editors from around the world.

Previous Colours of the Year were Denim Drift in 2017 (and I painted my bedroom in it!), Heartwood in 2018, Spiced Honey in 2019, Tranquil Dawn in 2020, BRAVE GROUND in 2021, Bright Skies in 2022 and Wild Wonder in 2023.

The Dulux Colour of the Year 2024 is Sweet Embrace ™

Dulux Colour Of The Year 2024 Sweet Embrace

Sweet Embrace™ is a delicate and optimistic colour, inspired by the softness of feathers and evening clouds.

It is a great foundation colour that can work with other shades to create uplifting colour combinations.

Expect this color to also work well on its own. Subtle and sophisticated, it takes on different tones in different lights, bringing warmth to north-facing spaces and softness to sunlit rooms.

Is Dulux Sweet Embrace ™ a good colour for corridors?

Use Sweet Embrace ™ in corridors by mixing it with other warm colours like Ochre Sands to create a fun and uplifting space that will feel light and make the space look bigger.

Should I use Dulux Sweet Embrace ™ on walls and ceilings?

If your room feels small, one of the tricks that designers would use is to keep one colour on both walls and ceilings. Sweet Embrace ™ is a good foundation colour that would look good if used both on your walls and on the ceiling. This uniformity of colour in a room can make the space look bigger.

Is Dulux Sweet Embrace ™ a good colour for my kitchen?

Choosing the right color for your kitchen is an important decision, as it can significantly impact the overall look and feel of the space. Here are some important factors to consider when selecting a color for your kitchen:

  1. Personal Preferences: Your personal taste and style should be the primary consideration. Think about colors that make you feel comfortable and happy, as you'll be spending a lot of time in the kitchen.

  2. Size and Layout: The size and layout of your kitchen can influence your color choice. Light colors can make a small kitchen feel more open and spacious, while darker colors can add warmth and coziness to a larger space.

  3. Lighting: Consider the natural and artificial lighting in your kitchen. A well-lit kitchen can accommodate a wider range of colors. If your kitchen has limited natural light, lighter colors can help brighten the space.

  4. Existing Fixtures and Materials: Take into account the colors of existing fixtures, appliances, and materials such as countertops, cabinets, and flooring. You'll want a color that complements or contrasts nicely with these elements.

  5. Durability: Kitchens are high-traffic areas that can be prone to spills and stains. Consider using paint finishes that are easy to clean and are resistant to moisture and stains, such as semi-gloss or satin.

While it's tempting to follow current design trends, remember that kitchen renovations can be costly and time-consuming. Consider whether you want a trendy look that may need updating sooner or a timeless color scheme that will endure.

Light paint colours like Dulux Sweet Embrace can work well in a kitchen but be careful - any lighter colour can reveal stains easily. We advise that you use a specialist paint type for this environment, usually mid-sheen (5-10%) can be cleaned easily with a wet cloth.

Ultimately, the choice of kitchen color should reflect your individual taste, lifestyle, and the practical considerations of your space. Don't be afraid to experiment with different colors, but do so thoughtfully and consider the factors mentioned above to create a kitchen that you'll enjoy for years to come.

Which colours work well with Dulux Sweet Embrace™ ?

Light pink (like Dulux Sweet Embrace™) is a versatile and soft color that can be paired with a variety of other colors to create different moods and aesthetics in a room. Here are some paint colors that work well with light pink:

  1. White: White and light pink create a fresh and airy combination. This pairing can make a room feel bright and open. Consider using white for trim, ceilings, and accents to complement the light pink walls.

  2. Soft Grey: Soft grey and light pink together create a serene and elegant atmosphere. Gray tones can add a touch of sophistication to a room with light pink walls. Choose light or muted grays for a subtle contrast.

  3. Mint Green: Mint green pairs beautifully with light pink, creating a sweet and harmonious color scheme. This combination is often associated with a vintage or shabby chic style. It can be used as an accent color for furniture, decor, or trim.

  4. Pale Yellow: Light pink and pale yellow make for a cheerful and feminine combination. This pairing can create a warm and inviting atmosphere. You can use pale yellow for accents, such as throw pillows or accessories.

  5. Soft Lavender: Light pink and soft lavender together produce a romantic and calming ambiance. This combination is often used in bedrooms and nurseries. Lavender can be used for bedding, curtains, or decor items.

  6. Navy Blue: If you want to add a touch of drama and contrast to a room with light pink walls, consider using navy blue as an accent color. Navy blue complements light pink beautifully and can be used for furniture, rugs, or decorative elements.

  7. Gold or Brass: Metallic accents like gold or brass can add glamour and sophistication to a light pink room. You can incorporate these colors through light fixtures, cabinet hardware, or decorative objects.

  8. Soft Beige or Taupe: Soft beige or taupe can create a neutral and calming backdrop for light pink. These colors work well for larger pieces of furniture, such as sofas or kitchen cabinets, in a room with light pink walls.

  9. Charcoal Grey: For a more modern and dramatic look, pair light pink with charcoal grey. The deep contrast can create a sophisticated and bold aesthetic. Use charcoal grey for furniture, accents, or even as an accent wall.

  10. Soft Blue: Soft, muted blues can create a tranquil and coastal-inspired feel when combined with light pink. This combination is especially popular in beach-themed decor.

When choosing paint colors to complement light pink, consider the overall style and mood you want to achieve in your space. Test paint samples in your room to see how the colors look together in your specific lighting conditions, as they can appear differently in various settings.
