2020 Bathroom and Kitchen Tile trends

The end of December is the perfect time to look at the new collections that have finally reached tile stores after Cersaie 2019 (the trade show that takes place every September in Bologna, Italy and focuses on ceramic tile trends). Textured finishes, patterned designs and large format tiles, the collections below focus on the key trends for 2020.

Terrazzo

Originating in Italy over 500 years ago, Terrazzo has made a major comeback and is now one of the hottest porcelain tile trends. This terrazzo porcelain tile perfectly replicates marble chippings set into cement and then finished to a smooth, matt appearance. Containing fragments of grey, bone and warm taupe colours, this terrazzo tile range is ultra-cool and ultra-versatile. Suitable for walls and floors in all areas of your home.

Oblong metro tiles

An alternative to metro tiles that have been used extensively in kitchens and bathrooms in 2015-2018, this oblong tile feature in most tile collections and is available in a variety of colours and finishes (including metallics). Have a look at this bathroom project from architectural design and planning firm RESI where this type of tile was used in a Victorian property renovation.

This ceramic subway tile has an elongated format which adds to its fun, Skandi appeal and ensures it offers something a little different. Available in either a 'flat' finish or with a bevelled 'subway' edge, this ceramic wall tile range looks great in bathrooms and kitchens alike. Try these:

  • Norse Subway Clay Gloss Ceramic - Mandarin Stone available in 12 colours, from £39.44p/sqm

  • Oska Shell Matt Porcelain - Mandarine Stone, available in 8 colours, from £39.39 p/sqm

Patterned Tiles

Adding interest in a corner of the room and perfect for feature walls, patterned tiles and smaller mosaics (like these hexagon mosaics below) will add some wow factor to your room, no question about it.

Below: Geo Pink Porcelain, a hard-wearing porcelain tile collection in an eye-catching design. Perfect for creating a bold statement. From £36.66 (2019 price) Mandarin Stone.

Natural Stone Tiles

Moving away from the all mighty Carrara marble, homeowners are becoming more adventurous by opting for marble tiles with new colours like the Valentina Honed marble (Mandarin Stone), an unusual and delicate Norwegian Marble that combines blush pink, green greys & linen tones.
