1/ The Ariel bed by Sweetpea & Willow

When I saw this bed in the Sweetpea and Willow showroom I couldn't help but fall in love. The elegant structure of the bed (from £2,395) is finished in a soft baby blue velvet (although you can specify linen or other colours if you wish) and is an exclusive design created by the S&W in-house design team.

Very elegant, this would make a beautiful addition in a grown up girl's bedroom. Combine with a Karma rug in blue from The Rug Seller, place in front of an accent wall covered in the Blostma wallpaper from Farrow & Ball in pink and paint all adjoining walls in Wimborne white. Accessorize in rose gold or brass.

2/ OKA - Zamindar

Your bedroom will be fit for a Maharaja with this elegant four-poster bed from OKA. Expertly crafted by hand from mango wood and upholstered in 100% natural linen, this stunning four-poster bed has been edged with hundreds of brass studs, and includes a luxuriously comfortable headboard and a king-size mattress sprung to medium firmness.

Perfect for creating a dramatic focal feature the Zamindar can be left au naturel or dressed up with drapes. The range also includes a matching bedside table. But remember that this needs space!

3/ And so to Bed - Hoxton

A four-poster like no other, the Hoxton (from £5,375 with offer) heralds a new era of modernity. Conveying warmth, luxury, and timeless glamour, the solid brass four-poster bed makes an ageless statement with its organic sensibility yet industrial design.

The Hoxton offers an exquisite modern alternative to the traditional wooden styles while retaining the craftsmanship and integrity of design for which And So to Bed is renowned.

The three panels on the headboard can be upholstered in almost any fabric, allowing for a completely bespoke element. Invisible fixings create a seamless joint and demonstrate the ultimate perfection of detail, which is a recurrent theme in every piece that And So To Bed creates.

4/ Anthropologie - Honoka by Tracey Boyd

Carved into bamboo-inspired shapes, this minimal frame designed by Tracey Boyd for Anthropologie is fitted with rattan caning and geometric canopy details. Tracey Boyd conceptualizes her furniture designs in the same way she spends her days - by gathering ideas, experiences, and one-of-a-kind items from her extensive travels.

Whether inspired by a single-drawer pull salvaged near her hometown in England, or an ancient mural from across the world, each piece is a superb amalgam of craftsmanship and unexpected details from her imagination.

5/ OKA - Tuvalu

Borrowing from traditional Polynesian style beds, the Tuvalu King Size bed (£2,590) channels both the ancient and, through its patinated metal finish, the modern.

It works unadorned in minimal schemes or can be dressed up with drapes to create something more lavish. The curvaceous, slim metal frame is finished to a soft Gunmetal Grey to ensure that this four-poster bed makes an impact without overcrowding the space.

6/ Anthropologie - Lucite and brass

The refractive Lucite frame and gleaming cast brass accents of the Oscarine bed from Anthropologie are meant to catch the light, drawing all eyes to its Deco-inspired lines.

You will find it on the US website. Probably the one that all your friends will want to have, so beat them to it. And if plastered walls are not your thing, try one of these marble effect wallpapers from Murals Wallpaper.

7/ Simon Horn - the Rialto

A contemporary lit bateau or sleigh bed, the Rialto from Simon Horn (£7,600, breathe in) features beautifully curved head and foot boards, soft curves along the base, and well-designed angled feet.

The overall sleigh shape is enhanced by the use of contrasting wood colours, the lighter wood emphasizing the natural grain of the wood. This is a statement and investment piece that you will pass on to the next generation. One for the chateau, for sure.

Combine with the Torberry dressing table (also from Simon Horn), use Paul Jeffrries grasscloth paper on the wall, a Harlequin throw from Amara, and Porta Romana table lamps.

8/ Savoir Beds - Hugo

The Hugo, from luxury bed makers Savoir Beds, combines the classic motifs of a British stately home with timeless elegance. With its draught-excluding curving headboard harks back to the British Tradition of fine furniture making for some of our grandest stately homes.

The curved headboard design also allows for a striking combination of fabrics to be used, contrasting plain cotton velvet with a beautiful Lacroix silk satin stripe.

The No1 base with taller springs and lavish layers of premium-quality natural fillings for a deeper mattress and the base is also upholstered in complimentary plain cotton velvet. A self-leveling walnut burr trim base trim completes the look.

9/ VISPRING x Missoni for Harrods

Blink and you missed it! An exclusive collaboration that saw fashion super-brand MISSONI join forces with sleep specialists VISPRING, resulted in not one but three Missoni-styled divan beds launched in Harrods between April and May this year, as part of the Harrods Art Partners campaign – which sees a series of collaborations between heritage lifestyle brands and contemporary designers take over London’s landmark department store.

10/ Ligne Roset - Desdemone

Designers Nasrallah & Horner were invited to rethink the bed, as much in terms of its function as its use. The upholstered headboard is evocative of a shell: it is an invitation to read, watch TV or even write.

The impression of continuity between the headboard and the base confers great visual lightness, even in the case of the version with the high headboard.

The Desdémone bed (£2,929) is a cocoon: it brings protection and serenity, becoming the ideal refuge for a perfect night’s sleep.
