Winter Ready with John Lewis

Temperatures are falling across the country so the season for nestling must be upon us. Don't be fooled by the occasional sighting of sun. It's time to get winter ready and what better way to do that than with textiles that will turn your home into a stylish snug. John Lewis is ready to help with the latest collection that seeks inspiration in cool blues - from ice blue to indigo as well as more earthy tones: creams and browns.

Two key looks to showcase here: grey and blue for a guest bedroom and blue on blue for a kids room. Blue and grey is a bold combination, modern and cool and if you go for the latest colour of the year by Dulux - Denim Drift - then the products suggested below will work perfectly for you!

I find that the simpler way to get into the mood for winter is to update my bedding; funky colours like fuchsia, lime, yellow get packed up and stored in the attic. Greys and indigo blues are better suited to nail a winter look. I can then layer them with faux fur throws and sheepskins.

In the guest bedroom above, which has two walls painted in Farrow & Ball's Moles Breath and side tables in Napoleonic Blue by Annie Sloan, I added the Striation duvet cover set in Blue and added woven cushions by John Lewis' newest own brand, DESIGN PROJECT (read more about that here).

Blue will look good with white (for contrast) or shiny metals (copper, gold or silver) for that luxe factor. Follow the look above to give your guests something to talk about. After all, it's the finishing touches that will make their stay really memorable.

Candle holders and vases with fresh flowers will make them feel like at home. And yes, do add a candle in the candle holder and matches nearby and let them know they can use these. Try the newly arrived Paddywax Gilt Pomegranate Cassis by love&found available at John Lewis; it has a lovely glass vessel with a gold bottom which you can use again as a candleholder. It smells divine!

Top picks for the floor: GAN Canevas Flowers Rug; Mora Rug in Sage; Genevieve Bennett for John Lewis Pom Pom Rug in Grey. All John Lewis.

There is something really moody about Stiffkey Blue which is one of my favourite colours from Farrow & Ball and which we have used in the kids bedroom above. I also love the blue on blue combination and the contrast with the white furniture. Accessorise you room with more textiles, like cable knit throws or sheepskins. Layering is a great way to add warmth as well as depth in your room.

My hero piece for the winter: Completely update your dining room by adding sheepskins on the chairs. John Lewis has pieces starting at just £35 for a single hide and £70 for a double.

Complete the look with decorative accessories like lamps and lanterns to create a cosy vibe in your living room. No house should be without candles in the winter season! The gold pyramid lantern below is my absolute favourite and I plan to get it in both small and large sizes to make a statement corner next to our fireplace.

Top accessories: Lanterns from £6; John Lewis Cactus in Metallic Pot, £8; Tamaki Cushion, Indigo £40; Isaac Ball Task Light, Copper £50.
